In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to configure and enable the Cart Reserved Timer module in Merchant Pro.
Before you get started, make sure you’ve installed and activated the Merchant plugin on your WordPress site. If you’re using premium modules, ensure you have Merchant Pro installed and active. This feature requires Merchant Pro.

1. Open the Cart Reserved Timer module
Open your Merchant dashboard by clicking the Merchant menu in the left sidebar of your WordPress admin area. Under the Reduce Abandonment heading, click the Cart Reserved Timer module to open its settings page.
2. Configure the settings
On the module’s admin page, find the Settings section and configure the following options:
- Countdown duration minutes: How long Merchant Pro shows the cart reserved message on the Cart page.
- Cart reserved message: The message shown at the top of the notification banner.
- Timer message for > 1 min: The message shown below the cart reserved message when more than a minute remains.
- Timer message for < 1 min: The message shown below the cart reserved message when less than a minute remains.
- What to do after the timer expires? Choose between two options. Hide timer removes the timer from the Cart page without clearing the cart, while Clear cart removes the timer and empties the cart when the countdown ends.
- Choose an icon: Pick from four styles for the alert icon shown on the left of the notification banner.
- Choose background color: Change the background color of the notification banner.
Once the settings are configured, click the Save button in the top-right corner of the page.
3. Enable the Cart Reserved Timer module
To activate the module, click the Enable button at the top of the page.

What happens when the timer runs out?
It depends on the option you chose. Hide timer simply removes the countdown and leaves the cart untouched, while Clear cart removes the countdown and empties the customer’s cart.
