Would you like customers to agree to your Terms and Conditions before they place an order? The Agree to Terms Checkbox module adds a consent checkbox to your WooCommerce checkout page, which helps protect your store from future complaints and disputes.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to set up the Agree to Terms Checkbox in Merchant.
Before you get started, make sure you’ve installed and activated the Merchant plugin on your WordPress site. If you’re using premium modules, ensure you have Merchant Pro installed and active.
The checkbox links to your Terms and Conditions page, which informs customers about your rules and makes clear they’re entering a legally binding contract with your store. The module seeks active consent, so the checkbox is unchecked by default and customers must check it before submitting the checkout form. This is in line with modern consumer protection laws and regulations around the world.
Here’s an example of an agree to terms checkbox added by Merchant to a WooCommerce checkout page:

1. Create a Terms and Conditions page
First, create a Terms and Conditions page for your store so you can link to it from the module’s settings. In your WordPress admin area, go to Pages » Add New to create a new page, or click the Add New button at the top of the Pages screen.

Once the page editor opens, add your Terms and Conditions, then publish the page.

You’ll need to copy the URL of the published page into the module’s settings to add the checkbox to your checkout page.
2. Set the default Terms and Conditions page for WooCommerce
To make the module appear on the checkout page, you also need to set your default Terms and Conditions page for WooCommerce. You can do this from the Customizer or your WooCommerce settings.
Assign the page from the Customizer
Go to Appearance » Customize » WooCommerce » Checkout, find the Terms and Conditions Page option, choose your page from the dropdown, and click Publish.

Assign the page from your WooCommerce settings
Go to WooCommerce » Settings » Advanced, find the Terms and conditions option, select your Terms and Conditions page, then scroll to the bottom and click Save changes.

3. Open the Agree to Terms Checkbox module
Open your Merchant dashboard by clicking the Merchant menu in the left sidebar of your WordPress admin area. Under the Protect Store heading, click the Agree to Terms Checkbox module to open its settings page.

4. Configure your agree to terms checkbox
On the module’s settings page, you have access to the following options:
- Label: The first part of the text Merchant shows next to the checkbox. The default text is “I agree with the.”
- Terms and conditions text: The second part of the text, which links to your Terms and Conditions page. The default text is “Terms and Conditions.”
- Terms and conditions link: The URL of the Terms and Conditions page you created in step 1.
You need to fill in all the fields for the module to work. Once the settings are configured, click the Save button in the top-right corner of the page.

5. Enable the module
To activate the module, click the Enable button at the top of the page.
