Want to showcase your categories, tags, or custom taxonomies in an eye-catching layout? The Taxonomy Terms widget in aThemes Addons lets you display taxonomy terms with flexible grid and list layouts, custom icons, term images, and full styling control.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to activate and configure the Taxonomy Terms widget in aThemes Addons for Elementor.


Before you get started, make sure you’ve installed and activated the aThemes Addons plugin on your WordPress site along with Elementor. This widget requires aThemes Addons Pro.

Activating the Widget

Go to the aThemes Addons dashboard in your WordPress admin area and find the Taxonomy Terms widget. Toggle the switch to activate it. Once activated, the widget is available in the Elementor editor.

Exploring Widget Options

Configuring Content Settings

Define which taxonomy terms to display and how they are organized:

  • Taxonomy Type – Select the taxonomy to display (categories, tags, or any custom taxonomy).
  • Terms to Include/Exclude – Choose specific terms to show or hide from the display.
  • Number of Terms – Set the maximum number of terms to display.
  • Order and Sorting – Control how terms are sorted (alphabetical, by count, or custom order).
  • Hide Empty Terms – Toggle this option to hide terms that have no associated posts.

Choosing Layout Options

Control the visual arrangement of your taxonomy terms:

  • Design Style – Choose between inline or stacked display.
  • Layout Type – Select Grid or List layout.
  • Columns – Set the number of columns for grid layouts.
  • Items Gap – Adjust the spacing between term items.

Configuring Elements Display Options

Choose which elements appear alongside each taxonomy term:

  • Icon – Add an icon next to each term name.
  • Term Count – Display the number of posts associated with each term.
  • Description – Show the term description if one exists.
  • Term Images – Display images for each term. This feature uses WooCommerce product category images or the Categories Images plugin.

Customizing Styling Options

Fine-tune the appearance of the widget in the Style tab:

  • Item Styling – Adjust backgrounds, borders, padding, shadows, and hover effects for each term item.
  • Typography – Customize fonts, sizes, and colors for titles, descriptions, and term counts.
  • Icon and Images – Control icon sizing, colors, border radius, and image dimensions.
